The Dolphin Research and Therapy Program
Presented to The Second Annual International Symposium on Dolphin-Assisted
Therapy, September 5-8,1996, Cancun, Mexico
A $25M Program was put assembled last fall for the purpose of funding 501(c)3
dolphin research and therapy projects. It became part of a larger effort
involving Jean Michelle Cousteau; however, the funding fell through as did
several other attempts to secure this rather large amount. Recently, another
source of funds became available and up to $40M has been committed to fund
dolphin research and therapy projects. These projects include:
Bioenergy Fields Foundation - Valerie Hunt
Dolphin Assisted Therapy Assoc. - Cathy Anderson
Dolphin Human Research - Dr. Dave Nathanson
The Dolphin and Marine Medical Research Foundation - Beth Smart
Hawaiian Institute of Marine Biology - Dr. Whitlow Au
Interspecies R&D - Steve Birch
Institute for Interventional Informatics - Dr. Dave Warner
Lei Aloha Center - Terry Pinney
Living from the Heart - Macey Jozsef
Human Potential Foundation (Neptune III Project) - Scott Jones
Earth Trust (Project Delphis) - Dr. Ken Marten
The Wild Dolphin Project - Denise Herzing
Aspen Research Institute (World Dolphin Research Society) - Dean Rawlings
There is room for additional projects; however, the recipients must be established
501(c)3 organizations or be affiliated with one.
The criteria for projects was established by the funding source and includes
only projects that have humanitarian goals. Some projects must benefit other
countries, and some projects must be expandable.
Participants have been and will be selected based on their willingness to
share results with all members of the Program and their ability to work
harmoniously and synergistically with others. Ongoing video and other documentation
will be provided with and eye toward several TV documentaries.
A brief synopsis will be presented for a few of the projects listed above.
